Futoshiki asks you to complete a four-by-four Latin square: every row and column contains one through four once. Inequality signs between neighboring cells add an ordered network; the pointed side faces the smaller value. A digit can satisfy row uniqueness yet violate a nearby chain, so both conditions matter. The puzzle generator counts Latin completions with inequality pruning and rejects any clue set that reaches a second answer.
Tap a cell, use arrow controls to shift the highlighted position, and press OK, Space, or Enter to cycle its candidate. Horizontal and vertical less-than signs remain between cells rather than occupying playable squares. Reset clears your work but preserves clues and givens. The input range wraps from four to blank, making every tentative entry reversible on keyboard, mouse, or touch.
Correct values raise the placement percentage, while completed rows, columns, and satisfied inequality chains contribute additional score. An unfinished comparison is neutral; an explicit reversed comparison is a conflict and earns nothing. There is no timer or permanent strike counter, so careful correction is always possible. The solved Latin square receives a final award, updates the local best, and then remains available until reset.
Read chains before isolated signs. If four cells rise consecutively, they must be one, two, three, four in order. Place row maxima beside symbols that require them to exceed a neighbor, then remove those numbers from the rest of the row and column. When two candidates remain, compare their external neighbors instead of guessing. Each inequality can transmit a bound several cells through Latin-square exclusions.
For narrow screens, directional buttons avoid tapping directly between a digit and its sign. All controls remain at least forty-four pixels high, and both portrait and landscape preserve the complete relation grid. Debug mode walks the verified square without ending the animation permanently. render_game_to_text lists inequality edges, row and column duplicates, cursor location, entered values, score, completion state, and bounded solver count.
